HOW TO FIND US........

BY CAR

Blackwater Boats Hire Base is at Sandford Lock in the hamlet of Brook End, about 2 miles from Chelmsford, between the town and the A12 Chelmsford By-pass. Unless you are familiar with the confusing network of local roads, we suggest that you approach our base from the By-pass. As there is an excellent motorway/dual carriageway link to Chelmsford By-pass from all parts of Britain, we suggest that you use one oft he following routes, and do not approach Chelmsford from the west.

FROM LONDON:
Take the A12 towards Chelmsford.

FROM THE SOUTH, SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH WALES:
Take a convenient route towards London and join the M25. Leave the M25 at junction 28 and take the Al2 towards Chelmsford.

FROM EAST ANGLIA AND EAST COAST PORTS:
A140/A14 or A120, then A12 bypassing Colchester towards Chelmsford.

FROM THE MIDLANDS, NORTH WALES AND THE NORTH:
AI(M) or Ml to join M25. Leave the M25 at junction 28 and take the Al2 towards Chelmsford.

LOCAL DIRECTIONS:
Ignore all exits from the A12 towards Chelmsford until you reach the exit for A130/1114 (J17) or A414/1060 (J18), which you follow towards Chelmsford. These roads merge as you approach Chelmsford, when you will reach a large roundabout with a flyover (Army & Navy PH). Do not use flyover, but turn right at roundabout (4th exit) onto the Al 38 (old Al 2). Cross the river and take 2nd exit at the next roundabout towards Chelmer Village, passing the Retail Park on your left. Take 2nd exit at next roundabout (Barnes Farm PH), and after a few hundred metres, turn right into a narrow lane called Sandford Mill Road. (If you reach the Asda supermarket you have missed the turning, but can U-turn at the roundabout.) Follow Sandford Mill Road, then Storms Way, until the gates of the treatment works are ahead. Turn right into Brook End Road (following the Sandford Mill brown signs). Ahead is a canal bridge, until there is a canal bridge, beside which is Blackwater Boats Hire Base.

DISTANCES FROM: London - 30m (50km); M25 15m (22km); Colchester 20m (32km); Harwich or Felixstowe (ferry ports) - 50m (80km). Stanstead Airport 12m (20km).
